The Student Lamp is a unique style of antique kerosene oil
lighting having several distinctive engineered features that set
it apart from other forms of Victorian lighting. Tiffany Studios,
Manhatten Brass, Plume & Atwood, Bradley & Hubbard,
Edward Miller, Handel, Revere, Parker and Wild & Wessel are
just a few of the manufacturers of these lamps. The
"Harvard" student lamp, the Mamouth, the double and
single Griffin are just a few of the facinating forms available.
Every type of Victorian art glass is represented in the shades
and appurtances used on these lamps. Shades and chimneys were
produced in all colors, cased and/or embossed patterned, satin
and gloss, opalescent patterned, acid etched, Lithophane,
Burmese, Mother-of-Pearl, Cut-Velvet and Leaded Stained glass.
From the simple clean lines of the early Victorian models
designed mainly with function in mind, to the ornate and
elaborately decorated later Victorian examples manufactured to
accent high style interiors, the Victorian Student lamp is
appreciated by today's collectors for it's enduring beauty,
craftsmanship and utility in modern homes. If you have a question
